udev and debian

Hello!
I've got a question about udev.
wich versions of debian do I get udev in?
I've heard that there are problems loading modules and that there is much file editing to get this working.
I used lenny before, but it was very long ago when it was the test version.
Do I get udev by defautl in lenny?
If so, Is there a way to remove this odd thing?
