Ok, I give up, another distro?

Hi.
Since it is perhaps the version of gnome that is the problem, can I install 
a different version, and how  do I do that?

Yes, it uses pacman and you install it using Speakup and espeak. I think you 
can use BRLTTY during isntallation, but have not tried it.
