Are you able to telnet the ip-address of the network interface of your linux
host on tcp port 22, if you haven't changed the default opensshd port for
getting remote ssh access.

If not, there is maybe something wwrong with internal routes to your host. 
If you are able to telnet, check the syslog to see what is happening
