ttytter configuration problem

After keying in the pin twitter.com shows me while trying to authorize 
ttytter the attempt routinely fails.  My computer's clock matches the time 
on the atomic clock and I do have cacertificates installed on this system 
so root certificates can't be the problem.  I've also logged in using 
these credentials before.  I'm about to try twittering-mode with emacs and 
see if I have any better luck.
