alt-f not working in Firefox

Greetings!

Last week, I could use alt-f to get to Firefox's file and other menus 
and also get to my bookmarks.  This week, alt-f does not work.  Alt-d 
works fine, and alt-f works fine in Thunderbird.  I did not update 
Firefox from last week to early this week, when I found the problem.  I 
did update Firefox afterwards, and now have version 34.0.5, but the 
problem remains.  Has anybody else run into this?
