Word Perfect in Linux?

Well Jackie, I must confes I really am not sure of a difference among word 
processors and text editors. All I am looking for is an easy2understand editor, 
like NANO which can handle search-and-replaces involving such items as items 
which say "null" or maybe circumflex. Many of the editor suggestions I had never 
heard of, so maybe I should explore. Thanks in advance
