Ubuntu, which Vinux is based on, will recognize and work with a NTFS
file system and external hard drives. You'll want to put it on it's own
partition, running something like EXT4, but you'll be able to get to
your other partitions, including NTFS, and you won't have any problems
working with external hard drives, USB sticks and so on.

Although I agree the Cloud won't replace local storage any time soon, I
don't agree that we'll end up regretting putting data in Clouds.
