Another possibility to shortcut searching but it will require the use of 
lynx is to install and use surfraw in one of its versions and then use the 
elvi for the debian repositories to do your searching.  Nice thing is, if 
you find packages and can type the right link numbers in, you'll be able 
to directly download right from inside surfraw.
