Nano 2.4.0 problem

Hi all,

I'm having a weird problem with Nano 2.4.0 and I'm wondering how to fix
it. Version 2.2.6 works fine. The problem happens both with Speakup and
my Windows screen reader, either over ssh or on the local console. I
think they changed a default setting somewhere, but I'm not sure what to
do to get the old behavior back. Reading the FAQ and /etc/nanorc didn't help.

When I enter text, it repeats everything on the screen. For example, if I
have a bit of text like the following:

#!/bin/sh
echo test

When I enter the second line, it repeats the first line after every
character. When I hit Enter, it repeats both lines of text. It's very
annoying and makes it hard to concentrate, especially when writing shell
scripts. I thought it had to do with smooth scrolling, but apparently
it's already disabled by default. How can I fix this? It only started
with 2.4.0 and other editors don't exhibit this problem. Beware anyone
who decides to upgrade as it's in the Debian pool. I'm greatful for any
suggestions of things to try.
