cannot get into gnome. do I need a screen anyway?

Hi.
It seems that I still need a screen to run gnome.
I get a message sayng something about fscreen busy.
I get the screen reader up, I press on my name into the login, and jus
get a message saying "sorry, it doesn't work.
Is there any other good disbribution that works?
