Hi Jude,
What soundcard you choose depends a lot what you want to do
with your soundcard, how many input and output channels you
need, whether you want to use your computer for effects
processing. The latter application requires low-latency, and
rules out USB soundcards, which are otherwise popular.
If the computer has a PCI slot available, I could suggest
that a ICE1712 chipset based card (such as Delta 1010)
has good ALSA drivers, and available with up to eight input
and output channels.
