Windows hangine (was: Grub hanging)

I've retitled the thread. If you have a new question, you should start a 
new thread. Anyway, your Windows signature block probably got messed up 
somehow and it needs to be repaired.  I put my notes on how to do that 
below. I don't know if you will be able to follow them. It's hard. You 
might need sighted assistance. I've repaired dozens of Windows installs 
this way but sometimes I have to try 3 or 4 times before I get the 
timing right.

1. Boot from a Windows installation disk.
2. After the system boots, press the enter key, then Alt+R
*Windows will scan at this point for problems, takes about 1-2 min*
3. Press the tab key, then the Enter key.
4. Reboot.

You can also back up the Windows signature file before starting the dual 
boot install. It's too late for you to do that now and it isn't usually 
necessary anyway. If your linux install crashes for some reason, it is 
nice to have a backup of the Windows signature file. To back up the 
signature, boot from a live disk like grml and do this:

dd if=${WINDOWS_BOOT_DEVICE} of=${WINDOWS_SIGNATURE_FILE} ibs=1 skip=440 
count=4

You'll have to set the values of WINDOWS_BOOT_DEVICE and 
WINDOWS_SIGNATURE_FILE to something appropriate for your needs. To 
restore it:

dd if=${WINDOWS_SIGNATURE_FILE} of=${WINDOWS_BOOT_DEVICE} obs=1 seek=440 
count=4
