OK, all I can offer are random guesses at this point. Obviously, sound
isn't the problem. It works here and it sounds like you're not doing
anything unusual. I would think the DVD is bad (you did burn to DVD media,
right?) but you hear the drum sound. Therefore, either it is starting and
somehow your sound is being muted (unlikely, but possible), the DVD could be
bad (again, unlikely) or you have odd hardware.

How much memory do you have and what is your processor speed? Can you try
the DVD on a different machine? Are you using a rewritable disc? Have you
tried any other Linux distributions or Ubuntu flavours, such as the standard
Ubuntu desktop DVD?

What's supposed to happen is Orca should come up and you should get a dialog
with options to try Ubuntu or install. You could try hitting Enter and then
try turning on Orca again. This is very weird. As a final possibility, can
you get someone to look at the screen just in case it's locking up or you
have some odd hardware problem? I remember I couldn't use a rescue CD (I
think GRML, but I'm not positive) on one of my machines because it locked up
after the CD started to boot. Again, I'm just throwing out random guesses here.
