Debian Stretch: how to get spoken login prompt and retrieve tty1

Hi, Didier.  Thanks for writing back.

It looks like I do not have lightdm here but gdm3, in case that gives 
you any other ideas for me.

I tried alt plus f1, but it does the same as the "windows" or "super" 
key, bringing me in or out of where to type part or all of a program 
name.  I do go into the terminal that way from time to time, but much 
prefer Speakup for console work.

Again, much appreciated.
