no sound in ubuntu command line

Well I removed pulseaudio thinking it might be the problem.
But alsa seems to not be seeing my sound card. see below.
This is on ubuntu command line, no gui.
sound worked fine on this machine formerly, but I am not sure when it broke.
Can you suggest anything?
