Linux flavor recommendations?

Mark P here,
I can give you some to try.  Arch wouldn't be my first choice, as it's hard as I dunno what to set up.  If you can get the debian met install to work
for you, that's an option, vinux is another, and ubuntu mate, providing you can have better luck getting orca to talk than I did.
There are more, but get your way around those and I'll give you more when you're ready.
