slint release install findings

Hello,

Well, I checked and didn't find any package update since RC3 that could
explain a change in behavior.

However, something (maybe unrelated, I don't know) puzzles me: although
I have rebuilt espeak against portaudio instead of pulseaudio just
before RC3, pulseaudio is still started just after espeakup starts.

Looking at /var/log/syslog, this seems to occur just after the soft
synthesizer linked to the speakup kernel driver is started (However the
kernel has not changed since RC3, so this was probably the case already
in RC3).

It's late now in Paris, I will continue to investigate tomorrow.

Greetings,

Didier

PS Speech still works in the installer, that contains portaudio but
not pulseaudio. I will check if there is a way to configure the
soft synthesizer to not spawn pulseaudio even if available.

Had speakup for console got a version change that hadn't happened in the release candidates?? If that did happen, a possible regression in speakup could be the culprit.

I have a root partition of 1996GB and a linux-swap partition of 4GB and available memory on the machine ram is 1GB.? I'll try taking the swap partition size up and see if this problem goes away.
