Make an image of an android phone using Linux?

Hi!
I know you can connect an android phone and copy and paste files between linux and the phone.
But is there a possible way of backing up the hole phone for example with the dd command?
SO that all settings and everything else is backed up?
Or should i go with something like acronis true backup?
