calibre ebook program anyone?

Hi folks,
Anyone successfully using  calibre in a Linux environment?
granted the program was created for Linux in the first place, but i 
respect that does not automatically equal speech of quality.
Which brings up  a different question.
best sounding speech on an e-reader these days?
The machines themselves, not an app for another machine.
