Orca on manjaro

Hello list,
I was trying to follow the talking arch installer instructions. I had a problem because the instructions say to install the arch on a blank hard drive. I have ubundu on the hard drive currently. When I try to access the hard drive by hitting or typing cgdisk /dev/sda I get a error which says it was unable to access that drive. How can I format the drive so that it is blank or how do I get around this problem,
Sincerely,
Michael maslo
