Tiling WM with Orca, anyone?

Hi everyone,

I need to install a distro on a minimalist machine for a blind Linux 
newbie, but in testing even Mate is having issues. Ok, it's a piece of 
junk, but all the guy's got.

I was thinking something like i3, but my research shows issues. What 
would you suggest? The machine is probably old enough so I could have 
bought it second hand when I finished high school 16 years ago.
