building kernel for ac97 sound card

Hi,

I've used /etc/rc.local to aplay a wav file for years. Unfortunately, it
isn't working on this box and I'm not sure why. I've not tried to chase
that down via the logs yet.

My usual practice is to have both an aplay and a few Ctrl-G chars in
rc.local just in case. Over the years this has helped when things go
awry. Fortunately, espeakup comes up working on this box, unlike another
(older) system where I have to systemctl restart espeakup after first
logging in without speech. Again, not sure what's behind this behavior.
It's fairly recent.

Best,

Janina
