To reproduce: run the subject operating system as a live system or installed. Other apps (gedit, thunderbird, terminals, etc) havd speech. Next, launch firefox; Speech stops when the firefox window has focus; note: other apps still talk. I haven't yet tried this in ubuntu-mate 22.04. Best Regards, Dave H.
