Well, the issue is that the emacs terminal emulator does not fully
support the [n]curses escape sequences needed to position the cursor
for your pager (e.g. less).  An amusing thing is that the emacs
terminal emulation isn't powerful enough to run a recursive emacs: try
"M-x shell" and then run "emacs -nw" at the shell prompt.  You'll get
the same message.
