Just for the record: since it was mentioned in the bz (see below) but 
ignored: since RHEL 5.3, part of the openjdk stack (i.e. all but the 
browser plugin) has been included in the main distro. However this 
version has a lower EVR than what was already included in EPEL ( not to 
mention that the existing package maintainer was completely ignored).
Bottom line, anyone using RHEL 5.3 (or Centos 5.3) and EPEL will be 
offered the package from EPEL as an update.
