Parallel packages may be as 'stable, solid, same-old-you-can-rely-upon'
than EPEL in general. A relevant case for having a parallel installable
version of an existing package is when a newer package is also stable,
maybe even more stable than the existing version, or more featurefull and
as stable, but has (documented) incompatibilities such that simply
upgrading is not an option.
Such a case will certainly be more and more frequent as EPEL becomes
older.
