Hi Christian,
Wow, that's a lot of bugs and questions. Could one of the reasons be :-

a. Its an IDE hdd ?

I know Ubuntu moved to SCSI emulation about a year, year and half back.

One of the bugs mention a workaround involving all_generic_ide as the
boot option. Would try and see if that resolves the issue.

b. Could it be this output in dmesg ?

$ dmesg | grep "Driver 'sd'"
[ 5.704236] Driver 'sd' needs updating - please use bus_type methods

What's interesting is I'm getting these issues on the newer 160 GB
