My 2 cent: "When upgrading a system with yum or pup I ended up with 
upgrades that  couldn’t be run because of dependency issues." -- that 
happened in the past, and it IMHO happened much to often. But I think 
with the Core and Extras merge *and* the new updates systems it will 
hopefully happen a lot less.

And if not then we need to find ways to improve.
