Thorsten Lemhuis (thl) helps me a lot of preparing the German Linuxtag.

Develops together with Red Hat the Linux-Distribution Fedora Core and
the LDAP-Server Fedora Directory Server plus packages a lot of software
suitable for Fedora Core in the community project Fedora Extras.



Description Englisch:

The Fedora Project was started as a development project by Red Hat
around the Linux. Its goal is to create a complete and general-to-use
Operating-System that is based only on Open-Source-Software.

The most wide know part of the Project is the quite well known and often
used Linux distribution Fedora Core, that uses Open-Source Software
only. Its developers closely work together with the programmers that
create the software and often include the latest versions of these
applications in the distribution. Fedora Core publishes about two
versions a year and round about every third one is used as a base for
Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Besides Fedora Core there are several related sub-projects: The
community-driven Fedora Extras for example packages additional Software
for Fedora Core in RPM-Pages that can easily be installed from the
Distribution. Fedora Legacy provides security-updates for older releases
of Fedora Core. The Project Fedora Directory Server is driven by both
the community and Red Hat to further enhance the sourcecode from the
Netscape LDAP-Server, that Red Hat bought and published as Open-Source
last year.

Entwickelt zusammen mit Red Hat die Linux-Distribution Fedora Core und
den LDAP-Server Fedora Directory Server sowie stellt über das
Community-Projekt Fedora Extras ein großes Portfolio an Zusatzsoftware
für die Distribution bereit. 




Beschreibung Deutsch:



Das Fedora Project ist ein von Red Hat gestartetes offenes
Entwicklungs-Projekt rund um Linux-Software. Das Ziel des Projektes ist,
mit der Linux-Community zusammen zu arbeiten, um ein komplettes,
universelles Betriebssystem ausschließlich auf der Basis von
Open-Source-Software zu entwickeln.

Der wohl bekannteste Teil des Projekts dürfte die ausschließlich auf
Open-Source-Software bestehende Linux-Distribution Fedora Core sein, das
weltweit zu einer der am häufigsten eingesetzten Linuxe zählt. die
Fedora-Entwickler arbeitet eng mit den Programmieren der enthaltenen
Software zusammen und integrieren meist aktuelle Versionen der
Anwendungen in die Distribution. Zirka jede dritte der normalerweise im
halbjahresrhythmus erscheinenden Versionen von Fedora Core bildet die
Basis für des kommerziellen Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Rund um Fedora Core drehen sich einige andere Projekte: Das weitgehend
von der Community geführte Fedora Extras stellt zusätzliche Software in
Form einfach zu installierender RPM-Pakete bereit. Das ebenfalls von
interessierten Anwendern gepflegte Fedora Legacy stellt
Sicherheitsupdates für ältere Fedora-Versionen bereit. Beim Fedora
Directory Server entwickelt Red Hat zusammen mit der
Open-Source-Community an der Weiterentwicklung des von Netscape
übernommenen und unter eine Open-Source-Lizenz gestellten LDAP-Servers.
