Last year was a great event with a very good turn out. I see Brian added the event to the Fedora Events page. I went ahead and added my name and also a link to a planning page for the event as well. I took care of registering the table last year, has anyone registered a table for Fedora yet? Also we have a > Distribution Project who can assist Red Hat to resolve this issue. ^^ as I wrote in my first mail, I also informed the Red Hat legal Person in Germany (Office Munich) also with my mail. But btw. it is really a issue, that we need e.g. an "official department" which takes care for this or such violations, which is educated within the whole Logo- and Trademark Situation in each Country. Means that every person who saw an "maybe violation" will inform the "department" and the department looks and takes contact to the persons and clears the situation; in worst case with Red Hat legal :-( Please remember in this case also the first FAD Announcement from December 2006 regarding Webpages .... Those people could see and argue first to the people who did a violation and after they come to a good solution, the "official legal department" of RH must be informed. Let's say it like this: we have a first "good try" and way with our own persons and if we don't get a solution we have to move and give over to the legal. I think that's a fair way ... I need help. (This is going out to a few places, as to hopefully have it picked up) One of my Fedora packages (rocksndiamonds) has a slight problem. Turns out that some of its audio files are straight copies of music which was used without permission. Full details are here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=245435 Rather than pull the game out of Fedora entirely, (it is pretty fun, and the music is the only real blocker) I'd like to replace the music with freely distributable music. So, this could be your big chance! Are you a musician? Is someone you know a musician? Would you be willing to give us some music under a Creative Commons license (Attribution or Attribution-ShareAlike only)? The music we need replacement for is: "Alchemy" by Ian Boddy, from "Drive" (emailed Ian) "Czardasz" by Robert Pieculewicz, from "Czardasz" (emailed Robert, now known as "Steve Allen") "The Chase" by Propaganda, from "A Secret Wish" (could not find contact info for Propaganda) "Twilight Painter" by Tangerine Dream, from "Heartbreakers" (emailed Eastgate Music & Media LTD, Management for Tangerine Dream) "21st Century Common Man" by Tangerine Dream, from "Tyger" (emailed Eastgate Music & Media LTD, Management for Tangerine Dream) "Voyager" by The Alan Parsons Project, from "Pyramid" (emailed permissions at the-alan-parsons-project.com) "Network 23" by Tangerine Dream, from "Exit" (emailed Eastgate Music & Media LTD, Management for Tangerine Dream) I've emailed the contact points for the artists (when I could find them), but I do not expect that they will be willing to permit the sound sample use. We don't need whole songs, just short sound samples that will endlessly loop while the game plays. The clips do not need to be long, the longest one in the above list is 14 seconds. The format needed is .wav. If you're willing to help, please email me (tcallawa at redhat.com). Without replacing this music, we'll have to remove this game from the Fedora package collection. I'm a musician :) Ok ok, now only in the free time... we did pretty good things in the past and we have a full album produced, I don't know if I can get samples from there but I can try. If our music is not suitable, we could write some music just for the game (and that would really fun :). This would be easier to release under the CCL also (I could give fedora rights but I don't think we can relicense our music as a whole, I'm not the only owner you know, but I can release samples of up to about 30 seconds under CCL anyway) Let me know how I can help! Thanks - so what's the best way to proceed? I have already created a GITEX event page and the response has been pretty underwhelming. Part of the answer is to post to the list first, then promote Fedoran participation any way I can - blogging, etc. Is the meeting the proper venue for soliciting assistance, feedback, etc.? See http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/GITEX for details. There is now less than 2 months to GITEX and the clock is ticking... There has been some interest shown by Red Hat EMEA in letting us share their booth. I will be following up in the next few days. This is being held in Dubai, UAE. I am assuming there will be some Fedorans among the over 100,000 expected visitors. (If there aren't, we're in big trouble ). I can use all the help I can get to man the booth, answer questions, produce and distribute live CDs, etc. If you are attending GITEX this year and can spare some time to help out, I think it will be a productive and fun time for all involved. Here is a quick update: Red Hat is being very supportive. They are providing the Fedora Project with a dedicated demo pod. One urgent task is to submit the design for the large demo pod sign. The Fedora Project will have the opportunity to show Fedora 7 in action booting on a laptop, from a live CD and from a USB stick. We hope to give out a few hundred Fedora live CDS and explain how to spin custom versions with Revisor. Since this is a commercial exhibition, we will be explaining open source concepts to members of the business community, and dispelling myths surrounding free and open source software. We also will assist in demonstrating the OLPC XO laptop. This is a great opportunity to expose government representatives from Africa, the Middle East and Asia to the One Laptop Per Child Project. What we desperately need is people willing to commit a few hours to man the booth, answer questions, do demos and show the Fedora Project at its finest. Please contact me any which way you can if you are interested. See the Fedora at GITEX wiki page (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/GITEX) for more details. John Babich Volunteer.
