From jkeating at redhat.com Thu Feb 1 16:57:45 2007 From: jkeating at redhat.com (Jesse Keating) Date: Thu, 1 Feb 2007 11:57:45 -0500 Subject: Announcing Fedora 7 Test 1 (6.90) Message-ID: <200702011157.46104.jkeating@redhat.com> Just a quick blurb. Fedora 7 Test 1 has been released today. For this particular release, we only did a Desktop spin of the package collection. We are still fine tuning targetted spins of the collection as part of the merger of Core and Extras. We also produced a LiveCD that has the ability to install to your harddrive, should you wish. http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/7 has the gory details of our work on the 7th release of Fedora. Downloads ========= DVD, CD and network installation are available. Please read the Important Warnings below in this announcement for more details. http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/ The recommended method of download is via BitTorrent from this site. http://fedora.redhat.com/Download/mirrors.html HTTP, FTP, and RSYNC downloads are available from Fedora Project mirrors listed above. Note that not all mirrors may be synced at this time. -- Jesse Keating Release Engineer: Fedora -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... A full set of release notes is released with test3, including a robust set of localizations provided by volunteer translators. This schedule allows us to make efficient use of volunteer resources for writing, editing, and translating content. The release notes process requires participation from documenters, developers, and other interested community members throughout the test release cycles. To find out more about how you can help, refer to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/ReleaseNotes/Process. Fedora is a set of projects sponsored by Red Hat and guided by the contributors. These projects are developed by a large community of people who strive to provide and maintain the very best in free, open source software and standards. The central Fedora project is an operating system and platform based on Linux that is always free for anyone to use, modify, and distribute, now and forever. - - - Fedora Project: http://fedoraproject.org/ Fedora Documentation: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject -- Paul W. So, I've made some changes to the fedora-advisory-board list, effective this morning. Membership is now "confirm via email" rather than "moderater approved" so basically list subscription is now the same as all other Fedora lists. Still, fedora-advisory-board is the place where we like to have some of the higher-level decision making begin, but with the assumption that it will be pushed off to other lists as appropriate. This decision also has the potential to lead to increased traffic on the list. Let's keep the traffic on-topic and high in signal, versus noise. The list's job will be to police its own. *** NOTE *** I will kill off the fedora-advisory-board-readonly list on March 1. Folks who are on that list (and therefore reading this message) are encouraged to subscribe directly to fedora-advisory-board. Let me know if you have any questions. It is written for individuals who are unfamiliar with the default Fedora Desktop and who may be running their first Linux desktop. The guide's approach is simple. It explains basic principles by covering one principle at a time. The document does not assume familiarity with any Linux/UNIX-specific terminology or concepts. Functionality is also compared, where appropriate, to what the reader may know from other OSes, particularly Microsoft Windows. Users of this guide should have a standard Desktop class installation of Fedora, including a user account with the default settings. The reader does not need access to the root password. - - - Fedora Project: http://fedoraproject.org/ Fedora Documentation: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject -- John Babich Volunteer, Fedora Docs Project gpg key: 42AF1331 From tchung at fedoranews.org Mon Feb 19 09:26:49 2007 From: tchung at fedoranews.org (Thomas Chung) Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2007 01:26:49 -0800 Subject: Fedora Weekly News Issue 77 Message-ID: <20070219092626.M55850@fedoranews.org> Welcome to our issue number 77 of Fedora Weekly News. http://fedoranews.org/wiki/Fedora_Weekly_News_Issue_77 In this issue, we have following articles: 1 Announcing a change in the Fedora 7 schedule 2 Fedora 7 Test 1 Release Notes 3 Changes to fedora-advisory-board list 4 The Interview of Bill Nottingham 5 Fedora Directory Server is now in Fedora Extras 6 InfoDesk Inc.
