I for one are no fan of lumping logout and shutdown together. They are
fundamentally different tasks, at least if you come from a Unix
background.

As for suspend and hibernate and whatever else there may be in the
future, the users shouldn't be made to choose between those every time
they want to take their notebook for a walk. They should make their
preferred choice once (in some preferences dialog), and then simply
close the lid and walk off.
