For what it's worth, I can't reproduce this on a vanilla x86 FC4
machine.

$ rpm -qf /usr/bin/ecj
eclipse-ecj-3.1.0_fc-0.M6.22

Did you try breaking into the hanging process with gdb to see what it's
doing?
