However, libevent is standard in NetBSD,OpenBSD (not sure about FreeBSD)
so it's been tested from that perspective.

and if libevent were available in Fedora, applications would start to
use it and be scalable and portable at the same time

Similar if Michael Tokarev's TinyCDB implementation were made available
http://www.corpit.ru/mjt/tinycdb.html, then maybe Wietse might even
consider including his CDB patch in an upcoming release

For those who want to build fast indexed files and don't want to go
through BerkeleyDB versioning hell, CDB is a godsend
