The RULE project, was: Fedora minimal install option

Greetings,

I did not formally introduce myself on the list because I just
planned to lurk for a bit. However, I am following with the
greatest interest the thread " Fedora minimal install option".

I strongly invite every Fedora developer interested in these issues
to look closely at the RULE project (http://www.rule-project.org/en/).

We work to install *really* barebones version of Red Hat Linux first,
Fedora in the future, on:

        really old/limited machines but also
state of the art HW which must not be cluttered with unnecessary
packages, to simplify installation, maintenance, running from
                       pen drives and such

Installation of standard Red Hat 8/9 packages with the RULE SW developed by M.
Fratoni
(Michael, are you on this list?) have succeeded on less than 16 MB of RAM, taking
(IIRC) 350/400 MB of disk.

As the project coordinator, I hope, especially after this thread, to see as much
interwork/integration as possible between FC and RULE. No need to reinvent
the wheel. I am willing to contribute to Fedora on these issues, if you are
interested.

Please browse the site, download and study the installer and scripts and don't
hesitate
to come back with questions and proposals, either here or off list.

We could definitely use more developers: should Fedora itself take from RULE and
make it unnecessary, all the better.

Ciao,

Marco Fioretti
