How gross, mailman seems to have eaten part of my first reply.
Trying again :

If I remember well the irony ponctuation mark died a quick death because
people (of this time) were smart enough to perceive irony without using
crutches. Though in our current unicode mail society, it may need to be
reintroduced. Looks it would be more useful than klingon <irony/>
