The freedesktop.org .desktop file standard already has the ability to 
distiguish
Name=gaim
GenericName=IM
or
GenericName=Internet Messenger

This sort of "simplification" of moving the GenericName part to Name is 
wrong/silly/stupid IMO:
1.  It violates at least the spirit (if not the letter) of the .desktop 
standard.
2.  It obfuscates the name/brand of the program/software you're using.
