Thanks.  That worked.

I had a softlink  /dev/mouse -> /dev/psaux
that I changed to /dev/mouse -> /dev/input/mice

and I had references to /dev/psaux that I changed to refer to /dev/mouse in:
    /etc/X11/XF85Config
    /etc/sysconfig/mouse
