No bigmem kernels anymore?

Does this mean that the -smp kernels have the overhead associated with
bigmem kernels of the past? In the past I was told that the induced
overhead of bigmem support made it not worth it until the 6gig~ memory
size. 5~ gigs of ram wasn't enough ram to put up w/ the overhead...
or am I smoking crack?
