Why are DVB modules missing from kernels newer than FC2 GA?

I am watching the BBC (even in Welsh if I wanted to...) with DVB 1.1.1
drivers. What are the issues? 

This issue has me staying well away from FC2. Hoping that FC3 will have
Firewire and DVB support...
