Why are there only i686 and i586 Version of glibc and kernel? -- i386 is still around

rpm --root --aid is your friend here. Either export over NFS or start a
rescue system from CD. Copy the rpmdb to the target system first, then
rpm --root --aid. Best use a system with the same version of rpm to
install to the target or you might end up with an rpmdb that is
unreadable.
