Well, if we're talking about current releases, I'd just assume the kernel
is fixed; the FC package doesn't really need 2.4 support, for example.

I'm thinking of using *something*; we (in HEAD) have some ACPI-based
PnP code, so grokking in other places could be used. It's better than
making people edit a config file.
