Because my /usr is on RAID5 and I need to keep a small root
filesystem (with /boot in it) on a RAID1 mirror in a small
partition so grub can read from it.

I prefer to keep the whole / on RAID1 because it makes it much
easier to do recovery on the RAID5 partition without using the
rescue mode of the installation CD.
