IMO, the only one that represents duplication is eog. I figured that
was the reason it didn't install by default on my FC5test1 machine.
It's still in the repository, which is excellent for those that want
it, but keeping it uninstalled by default is a good idea. I don't know
if you have actually tried using f-spot, but it is useless. When
importing my photos, I told it not to add the photos to it's own
~/Photos folder, but it did it anyway (why do this at all?!). The
thumbnail view is horrible; when you click on photos they go blurry.
The organizing features are very lacking. I'm sure these things will
be fixed in time, but in time for FC5 to be out the door with it as
the default and only viewer? I don't think so. I don't think it is a
good replacement for gthumb anyway.

Gthumb needs two things fixed, and then it will be good. For one, on
FC5test, it should be the default handler for images -- not The GIMP.
I filed a bug about this (because I think it's just a typo in one of
the config files) (1). The other thing that needs improving is that
currently gthumb has 2 modes, directory view and single image view; I
think it should only have one. When I say single image view, it really
is just one image, there are no back/next buttons or slideshows --
it's like eog. Directory view insists on starting up with a screen of
thumbnails, with no particular one selected or any particular image
'opened'. Once you do open a picture from directory view, gthumb
becomes useful; it's just like single image view except you get
slideshow and back/next buttons, as well as a way to jump back to
where you were in directory view. This is the mode it should start in
(single image, with back/next buttons, and a button to go into
thumbnail view). Having a mode for only viewing one image and no other
images should be left out for people that want to install eog.
