Believe me you're far better off with overlapping packages than a
multiplication of "common" packages.

What sucks greatly however is how i386 and x86_64 mirrors are not updated
at the same time, so every other day you have a window of problems where
yum finds newer i386 packages but not the corresponding x86_64 bits
