Casimiro, you're trying to compare a proprietary JVM that had began its development in 1992 (according to wikipedia) with a project that began recently. Compare the money and human resources available, multiply by the life time each project has and you'll see that the Sun VM has a lot more developer hours invested than the gcj (even though the gcj team has done an impressive work in so little time). If you really need java right now, feel free to use any of the other VMs if gcj doesnt work for you, but please report the problems you had, so the gcj team will know what needs to be fixed/improved. And if the problem is in classes that are outside of the Classpath, try convincing your vendor that you need the software to work on a VM that follows only standards.

All your software/hardware issues described have one point in common: not much data to find out what exactly is going on. Debugging a program is a complicated task when the program in question does its work only in the software land, but when it touches the HW, you can get very weird errors that are hard to trigger without the right hardware (or even without the same solar conditions... Ever heard of Single Event Upset on Cisco hardware, for example?).  OK, closing your reports with "not enough data" is not a good solution. Maybe the person who closed the report (that is, if you created a bugzilla report) should had told you how to collect more usefull data to help solve the issue, but the biggest issue is that this is not a religious war.  From all my contact with FOSS developers (specially the guys who work at Red Hat), I can say that usually the developer will do his/her best to fix the issue if there's enough data to find out the cause.

You dont need to give up Nvidia just because Fedora doesnt support it out of the box, specially if you need 3D acceleration. But if you want to file a bug related to kernel/X, please remove the driver and try to reproduce the bug without the proprietary driver (please see Mike Harris' post on how to ensure that the driver isnt installed anymore to ensure valid bug reports). After all, who knows what those proprietary modules do when they are loaded? They may even be worse than the infamous sony rootkit...

IMHO, what the RH guys want is protect their jobs (of course, since they're [supposedly] sane) and the company that contributes so much to the development of FOSS. What other company you know that buys stuff like GFS and FDS for a large sum of money and releases the sources?? I am one of the people that want companies like RH (and the other members of the OIN) to survive , so they can continue their good work.

I guess you forgot some parts of the movie. Mr Spurlock tried to contact the PR staff from Mcdonalds several times and never got an answer. In your case, you're getting an answer, but you dont like what you hear.  
IMHO  every linux distribution comes a whole set of ideas and sometimes you may not agree with some them. So the best way to choose a linux distribution is looking for one that has the same ideals as you.
