AFAIK the one "forking" things was Suse/Novel, because they did their
work in secret.

Yeah and all VI users should use Emacs, all Evolution users Thunderbird,
all Firefox users Mozilla  and all KDE users should use Gnome. 

But I agree with you that everybody that works on software that I don't
use is wasting his time, and that they work on the wrong software also
is the cause I have to wait longer on the software I want to use.
