Static linking considered harmful

what is specific to Fedora is that there were suggestions in this very
thread (maybe even by you or Ulrich, I don't remeber) to remove static
parts of the glibc/stdlibc++ or other vital parts making it almost
impossible for an end user to use the platform for statically linking.

Already requiring people packaging scientific libs in Fedora go
through loops to justify shipping static libs is an artificial
obstacle we construct ourself and will demotivate people, both
packagers and users alike.
