sysctl is using deprecated syscall

Working around a simple problem like this, increases the chance that it 
won't be properly fixed until it breaks for real (no longer does it's 
job). Deprecated means that at some point, the support for those calls 
will go away completely, so the only viable solution is to fix sysctl now.
