Change that to a pipe and you've sold me:
$ wget -O - http://whatever | rpm -qpi -
On closer inspection, this almost works already, if you invoke it as
'rpm -qpi /dev/stdin'. Explicit - for stdin, or just implicit stdin
with no args, would just be gravy.
